My Little Hunny and some other thoughts

The cute butterball pictured above is turning into such a sweet little person.  She loves to cuddle into you and give you "love" when you are holding her.  When you feed her a bottle she will grab your pinky finger and thumb like she is drinking a cup.  She loves to try to intercept the spoon when you feed her and she will give you huge smiles and giggles when you kiss or snuggle those chubby cheeks!  The best giggles you get are at bath time right now though!  When you tickle her tummy she just cracks up!  Yes...she is becoming a little person right before our eyes.  How fast it happens!  She is filling out into that chubby baby that can grab her feet, and try to eat them.  She can sit assisted, and she has almost mastered the roll over.

One of her favorite people is her brother Lukas.  She watches him like a hawk.  Her body will start wiggling and her head follows him.  Needless to say when she does go mobile Lukas will have a playmate that won't leave him alone.  Right now he loves his little sister like crazy!  It will be funny to see him avoid her when she is chasing him here in just 3 or 4 months!

While talking with a friend I realized that I don't have any pictures of Megan in my house.  I have a couple pictures on our fridge and one in the kitchen of Lukas holding Megan, but other than that I have none of her through out our house.  I am going to fix this!  She got some cute frames at her dedication and I am going to put some pictures of her in there and I need to get pictures taken of both Lukas and Megan...together and separate.  I have alot of pictures I have taken of her, but yes it's true I haven't put her up in the house.  It's the same in my office, my husband's office, and even at the Grandparents houses.  My Mother in Law and I were just discussing it this last Saturday.  I think it has to do with well Megan has only been alive 4 months and Lukas has been around longer, but I had more time to do this kind of stuff.  I won't let her fall into that second child syndrome lol.  I know right now she is too young for that, but it won't happen!  I will be just as affectionate as I was with Lukas and I will be just as excited for her firsts as I was with Lukas.  She will have pictures in our house and I am fixing that very soon!  Ha!  Love you my little Hunny Bug!

Messy Megan

Well I should have known not to say 'how easy Megan was to feed' when she first started eating solids.

I should have known it was going to get harder...but I had to let you know how easy she was and how clean about eating she was.  That's not the case anymore!  Between Megan putting her fingers in her mouth while eating, sneezing, or trying to grab the bowl things have gotten harder!  I guess not harder, but more difficult than how she started.

Oh and that thing I mentioned about her being so calm and patient about eating...well that's not happening anymore either!  I need to feed her 4 or so ounces of formula to calm her down to get her to sit and eat solids.  She is demanding about her food...just like...her brother!  (These pictures are good eating days...the tame days.)

She is so darn cute though.  How can I get frustrated with that sweet little face holding cereal on her lips, with her chubby wubby cheeks?  I can't...I don't stay frustrated long!  I find myself laughing!  I do know that it gets worse from here.  Yeah she will learn to eat neatly when I am feeding her, but when she starts feeding herself things...well we could have a mess like below!  This is one of Lukas's finer messes back in his day!

I wish I had a picture of his 'spaghetti moments', oh man that was some kind of mess when he ate spaghetti!

So...yep, I know Megan is doomed for noodles in the hair, pudding in her eye, ear, or another place she dreams up!  You can mark my words.  I will be there with my camera or phone snapping a picture of her exploration of food and learning how to feed herself!  Ooooh messy times ahead!

Fun Stuff

The picture above is Lukas's handy work.  I wonder if he will be a photographer?  Huh, I guess we will know when he is older!  Here are some other pictures he took of his subject (Daddy) that day.

Wasn't Chris being so nice...being Lukas's subject and all!  LOL!  I had to use these pictures for a post!  I just had to!  This is the kind of faces I get when I take pictures of Chris.

Lukas's Literal World

It's funny how 3 year olds take everything so literal.  I know that this is the only way they know how to take things, but it's still funny.  Depending on answering a question, Lukas's interpretation of something, or just learning about the world in general my husband and I find ourselves smiling at each other sometimes when it comes to Lukas.  I have 3 examples...

Example #1:  If we say it more than once...it must be like that all the time.  When we (my husband and I drive to work together) pick Lukas up from daycare he used to beg "drive fast Daddy!"  Chris would tell Lukas "we can't Buddy we are in town."  So he would rev the engine and Lukas would giggle.  Fast forward a month or two and Chris will rev the engine to get a response out of Lukas and Lukas hollers back at him "Daddy we're in town!"  He will repeat himself over and over.  It's very funny!

Example #2:  Everything is exactly what it is.  This last Saturday we were heading out to go shopping and use up a gift card for lunch the next town over.  Well before we left Chris wanted to stop and get something to drink.  Lukas chimed in "Daddy I want something to drink too!"  So Chris went in and got them both something to drink.  He brought back Lukas a juice box, but Lukas didn't see it when he got into the car.  Chris got into the car and Lukas says "Hey, Daddy I wanted something too!"  He looked back at Lukas and said "Don't worry I got you something Chief!"  Lukas looked at him puzzled and said, "Daddy you got me a chief?"  We laughed and Chris told him "no Lukas you are chief...I called you chief" as he handed him his juice box.  Lukas just smiled and looked at his juice box, "this is a chief!"  Another funny moment!

Example #3:  That same shopping day we were walking into Herbergers department store, and Lukas asked me "Mommy who is this store?"  I told him this store is Herbergers.  (The sign on the front of the store has a flower next to the name.)  He then told me, "no it's not Mommy, they don't have burgers here."  He pointed to the sign and said, "see they sell flowers."  I just agreed with him, because by this point it's much easier to just agree!  When we walked into the store he asked where the flowers were, and he also had to point out "see no burgers Mommy."  So wise...my little boy!

Megan's Dedication

We dedicated Megan this last Sunday in a private little gathering at our house.  It was nice to get together to celebrate my little butterball!  She was so cute in her little dress and tights!

Your precious little girl
Is a blessing from the Lord
A beautiful expression of God’s grace
And what His love is for
May she grow before the Lord
As His princess that she is
For she has come into the world
For such a time as this

1 Whole Week of Potty

My baby boy...I mean big boy Lukas.  He wore underwear all week!  He had minimal accidents and he is so proud of himself!  We are also very proud of him!  It's a big step mastering the potty.  He is 3 1/2 years old and he finally just got it!  Every child is different and we had some set backs last year, but patience and lots of talking about it finally brought him around.  I know 1 week doesn't mean he is potty trained, but we are well on our way!  Yay!  Congrats Lukas...we love you!

Just Because I Love You Cake

My Lukas is a total chocolate lover!  He will look at chocolate and say in a funny low voice "chocolate" while rubbing his hands together or he will remind me (as if I didn't know) "Mommy I like chocolate."  I look at him and shake my head in a understanding that 'yes I know you like chocolate.'  So when I came across this recipe on Picky Palate I had to make it for him!

Lukas was so excited that I made a little cake...all for him!  I told Lukas this was his "Just Because I Love You Cake."  (I made one for my husband too...but he didn't seem as impressed!)  Lukas would see the cakes on the oven and tell me "look Mommy, that one is Daddy's and that one is mine!"  He did enjoy it too...however it was a little big.  I helped him eat some of it!  It was good, but now I want to make different versions of that little cake.  That would be a fun little surprise to make Lukas from time to time.  Next time I might try to make a strawberry, white chocolate, or maybe even a carrot cake...oh the possibilities!

New Coats, and One Pair of Boots

Well we finally did it...we finally bought our children their winter apparel.  Lukas didn't want to even take it off when we got home and he tried everything on.
He looks so much older...we didn't get him a silly hat this year.  I am thinking that might be why he looks older in this stuff.  Plus this is the first year I have bought his coat from the big boy section of the store.  (*cry*)  My baby is growing up!  Yes I know he is only 3 1/2, but it feels like he is so much older!

We got Megan a cute little pink suit to wear.  No hat and mittens...yay!  We can't lose them!

Here they are together...my cutie pies!

Bring on winter...no wait...I take it back, I don't want winter!

A Tale of 2 Boogies

Both Megan and Lukas get stuffy at night.  For the last 3 years I have ran a humidifier this time of the year until around April in Lukas's room.  Well last year around April the tank for the water cracked (I can't remember how it happened...I think Lukas dropped it), but that means I didn't have one to plug in and get going in their room now for this dryer air in the house.

So the this last week Megan has been really stuffed up.  Sunday night she didn't sleep well because she kept waking up, because she couldn't sleep with all those boogies stuck.  We needed a new humidifier.  That is that.  Well payday happens every other Thursday so we had to make do for the time being.  I found last year that putting Vick's Baby rub on Lukas's feet helped him sleep when he had a cold and couldn't breathe.  (not sure how it works...but it does!)  So I decided to give it a try on Megan.  She has slept better, but that is it.  It only helps her sleep.  She is still really stuffed up.  The cause of her problem I believe is the dry air and maybe the furnace filter needs to be replaced.

Ahhh Fall...the air gets dry, and cool which doesn't help at all.  (ha...that rhymed)  I always blow my nose in the morning to get rid of the morning yuck.  Lukas is 3 1/2 and he just started blowing his nose...not every morning though.  Wednesday when we were on our way to drop them off at daycare Lukas sneezed and boogers flew out his nose down his face.  He cried a little and said "I need a Kleenex!"  Well we didn't have a Kleenex, napkin, or anything to use.  I didn't know it was hanging from his nose down his face until I got out of the car to take him into daycare.  I quickly ran in grabbed some Kleenex and got him all cleaned up.  Lukas thought it was funny.  He kept repeating "it was on my face Mommy, right?"  "on my lip too?"  I just smiled and said "yes it was, yucky and gross!"  Then he laughs.  Well not five minutes later I was getting them out of their coats, hats, and shoes Megan sneezed and boogers flew out of her nose!  We were inside by that time and our daycare lady gave me a Kleenex and we got her nose cleaned up too!  It was a boogie kind a day!  Hopefully the filter being changed and a humidifier will help!

Now that I have grossed you out for the day...Have a Happy Saturday!

Megan's Discovery

There is just something so cute about a baby playing with their own feet...

I love it!

My baby girl has made a great discovery!  Her feet!  Whenever she plays on the floor she will get ahold of her feet and even sometimes she yanks off her socks.  Diaper changes are the same way.  She will get ahold of those feet.  I love her feet!  I guess I should say I love baby feet period!  A game Megan and I play before bath time is feet Peek-A-Boo.  I will get her undressed (down to a diaper) and then put her little feet together and quickly separate her feet and say Peek-A-Boo!  She will always giggle!  It's so fun interacting with her now.  A baby's giggle makes you laugh and if it's a baby you know or a baby you love the feeling is ten times better!

She is getting better at grabbing things on purpose too.  She has a very hard grip when she gets ahold of things.  Believe me!  One of her favorite things to get ahold of is my hair!  I know Megan is only 4 months old, but I already feel like time is getting away from me with her.  Probably because she is my last baby and I know she is my last one.  It's all so bittersweet.  Before you know it she will be rolling over...

Yikes!  So close...

She is such a funny baby!  Floor time is a favorite of hers.  With how much she wiggles you just don't know when she will do something.

Lukas's First Hockey Game

Daddy took Lukas to his first hockey game this last Saturday night.  All day Saturday he talked about going to the hockey game with daddy and Uncle Joe.  The picture above is of them before they left.  My husband sent me some pictures, but my phone isn't letting me share them...for some reason.  (Since I am a support person you would think I could support myself and figure it out, but I am out of ideas!)  So I don't really have any pictures of Lukas at the game.  Anyway, when he came home he was bouncing off the walls and happy as heck!  He did have a small sprite and a churro (basically a stick of sugar) at the game.  It was a special occasion to have fun with daddy and go watch the hockey game...so I am gonna let the stick of sugar slide!  Ha...*waves* Hi Honey!  You see I am letting the stick of sugar slide...I guess between Halloween candy and Christmas coming up Lukas is getting his fair share of sugar anyway huh?
Well besides getting all sugared up the hockey team's mascot pretend to drink Lukas's pop.  Lukas thought this was really funny!  In fact if you ask him about the hockey game he will tell you about the "silly bear trying to drink my pops" is how he says it.  Another thing he will tell you about is the "cleaning truck" which I am assuming means the Zamboni.  Maybe someday he will get to ride one...that would be neat!

While the boys were away the girls will...

sleep?

That's right Megan ate, napped, took a bath, and then she went to bed for the night.  So we totally "lived it up" while the boys were gone.

Next time Lukas goes to the hockey game I will probably find a sitter and go with.  I missed being there for his first hockey game!  My husband and I love hockey so there will be more games to take him to!  That is for sure!

Memories, of my baby Lukas

Do you ever find yourself looking at the past and feel happy, but like you want to cry too?

Well the other day at work I was on hold on the phone.  As a support person I spend alot of time "on hold" waiting for support myself.  So whenever I am on hold I usually browse the internet.  I decided to look up stuff on Lukas's blog I used to write.  The above picture is Lukas's love for pudding, can you tell?  As I read some of the posts I was remembering that time and how fun he was.  He still is fun, but darn he was such a cute little baby!  So as I was remincing I came across these videos.  He was probably close to a year and a half in them.  I started crying at work.  Not a bad cry, but a happy/proud/sad cry.  Happy because you realize you are raising a happy child, proud because you see how far your child has come, and sad because you see just how fast their "littleness" slips away before your eyes.  Lukas is only 3, but sometimes we feel like he is much older by the things he says and sometimes how he acts.

The links below are to the videos of Lukas dancing (around 16/17 months old).

Dancing to Christmas Music

Dancing in the Newspapers

I know he is only 3 years old, but dang I miss his "littleness".  I do have to say the age he is at is pretty fun too!♥

Probably Teething...

See this sweet little girl...
Well I do believe she is in teething mode.  She has been a total drool monster the last two weeks.  She gages herself accidentally trying to chew on her fingers, drools and spits up everywhere, and has hit some fussy times.  (She isn't a fussy baby either.)

This is her finger as of last night...I should say both fingers on either hand look like this.

Last night while trying to feed her she wouldn't take those cotton stinking fingers out of her mouth!  How is one supposed to put a spoon into a mouth and feed a baby that won't take her hands away from her mouth for 2 seconds?  I'll tell you how you do...you take the hand away with your extra hand and then spoon in the food with the other hand.  All the while your baby gets mad, because she clearly wants to chew on her hand!  Then your 3 year old asks..."what's wrong Mommy, why is Megan mad?" over and over.  He means well...*sigh*, it was a very frustrating feeding.

I am not used to this teething gig this young.  Lukas never drooled (never ever...I didn't know how lucky I was), he never chewed on his fingers (he had a pacifier until he was 6 months old, but even after that he still didn't chew on his fingers until he was close to a year old), and it's safe to say he never caused his fingers to bulge and become red from chewing on them.  However, he didn't cut a tooth until he was 11 months old either.  It literally took forever for him to cut a tooth.  With Megan teething so early I wonder if that means we might get teeth earlier for her?  I guess time will tell.

Halloween Fun

Megan and Lukas Halloween 2011!

Lukas had so much fun this Halloween!  In fact he had so much fun trick or treating he asked me right away Tuesday morning if he could go again tonight.  I told him "nope Bud you'll have to wait till next year now!"  He then got mad!  Ahhh, there is no pleasing a 3 year old sometimes lol.  He did get alot of candy and I am thinking Daddy and I will have to help him eat it!

Megan did great for her first Halloween.  She only fussed when we had to put her in her car seat (3 times) and was a happy smiley baby for every visit we went on!  She got baby food, teething biscuits, cereal, and baby snack food for when she can crawl.  Daddy and I won't be helping with that!

Lukas loves his little sister so much!  Here are some more pictures of them on Halloween!
